Dr. Peter Schattner, President of B’nai B’rith Victoria (BBANZ), is currently visiting Israel with his wife, Rosa. As part of their visit, they took the opportunity to follow up on BBANZ’s significant support for B’nai B’rith Israel’s Operation Rising Lion campaign and see the impact of their contributions on the ground. Notably, BBANZ President Benny Monheit reached out to B’nai B’rith Israel following the first wave of Iranian missile strikes to offer immediate assistance.
Accompanied by Elise Shazar, Director of International Relations, the Schattners met with Ramat Gan Deputy Mayor Israel Zari who described the municipality’s efforts to assist the 4,000 displaced residents whose homes were damaged in 5 missile hits over the last year. Zeri praised B’nai B’rith’s invaluable support for these families, noting that ”It isn’t just about the financial support, these families need to know they are not alone.”
The group then visited the Altshuler Shaham Distribution Center, where they met with B’nai B’rith volunteers who sort and distribute the donated clothing and toys to evacuees. They also met the manager of the adjacent Leonardo Hotel, where more than 85% of guests are evacuees, and heard more about the needs of these families.
The visit concluded with a meeting with Emanuel Cohen, President of B’nai B’rith Israel, who briefed the Schattners on the organization’s expansion and activities. Ideas for strengthening future collaboration were also discussed
